New Year, New School!

posted Jul 7, 2016, 10:30 AM by Michelle Barbee

I am not going to focus on the wonderful co-workers, sweet students and terrific parents that I will miss, but instead I will focus on the excitement of a new opportunity in a new school and an ISD. The best part is that I still get to teach Kindergarten not far from my house! How lucky am I?! I met most of the team in my interview and I have chatted on the phone with my new team lead. I think they are going to be great to work with. I am in awe of the amount of resources I will have compared to the school I am leaving; I will probably donate several things to my former coworkers. Out of guilt, maybe? Oh, and having a real library just takes the cake! I have an English degree and the majority of Kindergarten is reading instruction, so I love a good library. I still have a week and a half before I can see my new classroom and school and meet up with my new team leader, so I will try to relax and enjoy the summer and not buy anything for my classroom yet. I'll be on Pinterest if you need me.

RAZ Kids Update

posted Nov 16, 2015, 5:22 PM by Michelle Barbee

I sent home the Reading A to Z login info last week and when I checked today- EVERY student has logged in at least once!!! RAZ Kids is such a great reading resource which Kinders really enjoy. I have a few students already working towards a new reading level. I may need to give out some coupons for doing RAZ Kids homework... keep it up!

My Summer Vacation

posted Aug 16, 2015, 6:27 PM by Michelle Barbee

My summer vacation was exciting and exhausting, but I had a wonderful time! First, I traveled with my family (father in law included!) to the Orkney Islands. Go look it up on Google Earth, you'll want to go there too! We had an amazing time exploring archaeological sites from the stone age to the medieval period and wildlife watching too. After we got back, I started school- as a student! I got to participate in my second year of the Sue Rose Summer Institute for Teachers at the Dallas Institute for Humanities and Culture. I got to represent ILT, all by myself, but I met some really wonderful teachers there and I am honored to be in their company. Of course, because I was a student I had homework, lots and lots of it! But because I did my homework, and a little extra, I get graduate credit from the University of Dallas for all my hard work. So even though I'm a teacher, I still get to be a student too!

Introverts and Extroverts

I just thought these were fun and I definitely recognized myself and my coworkers! Do you recognize teachers you know in one of these categories, or both?

Graduation Day is coming!

posted Jun 2, 2015, 5:18 PM by Michelle Barbee

This Thursday, June 4th at 9:00 am, our little Kinder friends will become official first graders! We have been practicing to sing loud and clear, in English and Mandarin Chinese. We are so very proud of how wise and mature our kiddos have become and can't wait to show parents and friends at our graduation.

And who gets to read the Parent Address in English this year? Why Mrs. Barbee, of course! Wish me luck. :)

Field Day!

posted May 20, 2015, 7:24 PM by Michelle Barbee

Field Day is coming up next Friday the 29th. Kindergarten will have the field for the first half of the day and then have a picnic lunch and a chance to rest and cool off. Last year was a huge success with an inflatable obstacle course, dance party station, water balloon toss, etc. I can't wait to see what the coaches and volunteers have for us this year!

Please remember that students may wear their field day shirt or any orange shirt with jeans or jean shorts and athletic or tennis shoes. A change of clothes is recommended, as we will probably have water balloons again. Don't forget to send a sack lunch for the picnic and an afternoon snack!

Rescheduled Field Trip

posted Apr 18, 2015, 12:54 PM by Michelle Barbee

We were so excited for our field trip to the Dallas Arboretum, but for safety's sake, we had to postpone. Our new field trip date is May 5th, so we will celebrate Cinco de Mayo in what may be the prettiest way possible. Thank you to all of the parents who signed up to chaperon and we will see you Tuesday, May 5th!

Field Trip this Friday!

posted Apr 13, 2015, 12:03 PM by Michelle Barbee

We are very excited that our field trip to the Dallas Arboretum will be this Friday! Please remember to bring a sack lunch with disposable containers and wear your maroon polo shirt with jeans, jean shorts or khaki shorts. Also, please wear tennis shoes for safety. Parents, if you are a chaperon (thank you!) please check in with the office no later than 8:30 so they can swipe your driver's license and give you a volunteer sticker. You can follow the buses or meet us at the Arboretum. We will leave school at 9:00 and return about 2:00. Please send a snack with your child because we will be hungry after our long, activity-filled day! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or call the school office: 972-414-8000.
