PLAY PRACTICE UPDATE!                                                                     February 18, 2018

Dear Parents,

An exciting time of the year begins as we now into the third quarter of the school year and our theater season begins. The excitement of high school acceptances, placement exams etc. has the eighth graders eager to be finished with school however, there is still much more work to accomplish. It is more important now than ever for the students to remain focused and grounded in their school work.  Please continue to encourage them to stay steadfast in their efforts.  Play practice begins this week after school, three days a week. Practice will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 PM until 5:00PM at John Paul II. Thursday’s vocal practice will be held in St Philips church. It is imperative that everyone, (the entire cast) makes an effort to attend every practice session in its entirety. As we get closer to Showtime, we will have practice Monday through Thursday.

All play practices sessions are closed to non-cast members. No visitors or family members are permitted during play practice. Siblings must go to aftercare or be picked up at 3:00 PM dismissal. Students will be dismissed from play practice promptly at 5:00 PM through the auditorium doors. We ask for your cooperation in being on time to pick up your child. Students not picked up at 5 PM will be sent to Aftercare.

Students are allowed to change into, and wear clothing that is more comfortable during play practice. Gym Day/Tag Day rules apply. Students should bring a healthy, energy rich, snack and a drink to enjoy at 3:00 PM.

Play practice expectations:

·         All students should work at learning the entire score. A rehearsal CD has been provided to all the students. This CD is a helpful tool to use to study the script and learn all the songs. This is important even if they have no speaking lines in the play. They should come to practice prepared to act and interact with the other characters in the play. They must know their lines!

·         When not on stage practicing performing, students must be self-directed and disciplined. They must be working on other components of the production to which they have been assigned, such as set design, promotion, costumes, props, etc. Cell phone or other smart technology use is not permitted during practice. Students are expected to adhere to rules and regulations of the St Philip Preparatory School and Middle School Handbook at all times.

·         Every cast member is responsible for his or her own costume(s). Information regarding the costume requirements will provided in a timely manner. In order to make the production a success, we ask for strict adherence to due dates and deadlines.

Not only is the eighth grade play a wonderful tradition here at SPS but it is certainly an awesome opportunity for our students to learn about theater and make life long memories. Each year we are very proud of the quality performance the student put on as their finale here at the Prep. The success of the production however, relies heavily on the hard work, and dedication of each and every student. I am looking forward to a great show!

God's Creation

Almighty and everlasting God,
You made the universe with all its marvelous order, its atoms, worlds, and galaxies, and the infinite complexity of living Creatures:
Grant that, as we probe the mysteries of your creation,
we may come to know you
more truly, and more surely
