Cole Hunt is a graduate of Sweetwater High School in Sweetwater, TN, where his band directors were Bryan Hatmaker and Kayla Avery. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a Bachelors of Music in Instrumental Music Education. While at TTU, he studied saxophone with Philip Barham and performed in the Golden Eagle Marching Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. Mr. Hunt's primary instrument is tenor saxophone. He also enjoys early music and plays recorder as a member of the Greater Knoxville Recorder Society.
In 2009, Mr. Hunt was hired as the band director for Burchfield and Winfield Elementary Schools, and he currently directs both programs. Mr. Hunt is currently a member of NAfMe, TMEA, ETSBOA, TSSBDA, and NEA. He is married to Brandan Hunt.
Donors Choose - Mr. Hunt has had seven projects funded through DonorsChoose.org bringing over $2,400 worth of instruments and sheet music to his bands.
Ginkgo Grant - In 2010, Mr. Hunt was the first recipient of the Ginkgo Grant awarded by the TTU Honors Program. This grant helped to found the Scott County Schools Middle School Band Camp. Mr. Hunt received this grant again in 2011.
FNB Mini Grant - In 2012, Mr. Hunt received a First National Bank (Helenwood, TN) Mini Grant. This grant was used to purchase a set of hand drums and a bass recorder for the Winfield Recorder Ensemble.
Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation - In October of 2012, The Burchfield Band was awarded a grant from the Mr. Hollands Opus Foundation. The grant, funded by the Hatfield Family Foundation, was for over $19,000 in new musical instruments for the band. An article on this grant from the Knoxville New Sentinel can be found here.
