Unit 5 Reaction Mechanisms

Digital Book

Now we will really get to do chemistry. We just learned about the three main types of reactions, now we will study how substitution reactions occur, why they occur under certain conditions better than others, and also what factors greatly affect their rates. We will also study elimination reactions in the same terms. We will learn about SN1, SN2, E1, and E2 reactions. We will learn about the role solvents, either aprotic or protic, play in reactions. We will also study steric hinderance, nucleophilicity, basicity, and leaving groups. This is going to be one of the most crucial units and also the most advanced. We will begin tying all topics discussed up to this point together. It should be all downhill after this unit!
