Unit 3 Functional Groups
During this unit we will further our ability to name and draw organic structures. We will also expand on out understanding of functional groups. Up till this point we have only studied alkenes and alkynes. During this unit we will study alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amines, and amides. We will primarily be focusing on the naming, drawing, and recognizing of functional groups within molecules. We will touch upon the chemistry of ester and amide formation. After this unit we will have a strong foundation for names and the molecules they represent. We will then begin learning about various reaction mechanisms!
