Unit 2 Naming Compounds

Digital Book

During this unit we will be focusing on the IUPAC method for naming various organic compounds. This will be a lot of memory work, but will pay off in the long run. If you take the time to learn the language during this unit you will be better equipped to understand and interpret future problems. We will learn the difference between alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes. We will also revisit isomers and learn how to name them. The final types of organic molecules we will study will be cyclic molecules. We will study both alkane cyclic molecules and alkene cyclic molecules. We will be introduced to benzene, and the many aromatic compounds that benzene is a part of.
