Merle Pinhas

Merle is an Israeli Australian artist, whose main theme is the mystery and wonder of the human face, where each inner life is often read in the eyes.  She is a portrait artist & works in water colors, pastel, pencil, and collage.

Also flowers studies are a main theme, which express, the energy life and beauty that explodes out of all God’s creation.  The sacred act of recording these themes, allowing the inspiration to sing it own song through her, is the main motivation for these drawings and paintings.

Merle did fine art Witwatersrand University, Johannesburg South Africa.  She exhibited in One Woman Shows and many Group Shows in Johannesburg, Australian, and Israel.  She has illustrated books, worked in Puppet Theater, and ceramic work shops, and taught art in Israel and South Africa to mainly deaf children.

In 2005 and 2006 she won six art awards in Sydney Australia.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd Hornby Arts Award.

1st prize in Castle Hill Agricultural Exhibition.

2nd prizes in Paramatta Art Awards.

She had her own gallery in Zefat from 2000-2001 and now lives in Jerusalem, Israel, doing portraits either by commission at private sittings or from photographs.
