Rusty Groh, GCFP

Rusty Groh is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner.  He has a background in music and athletics and holds a B.A. in English Literature from Providence College.  Rusty first came to The Feldenkrais Method® as a means to cope with and remedy the lingering pains of old injuries and found such an improvement in his own physical condition that he enrolled in the Professional Training Program at The Feldenkrais Institute of New York, directed by David Zemach-Bersin, hoping ultimately to help others to move with greater ease, comfort and awareness and to assist those with their own physical obstacles and movement-related challenges.

Rusty graduated from the program after four years of tutelage and began his practice in Hoboken, NJ in 2011 - teaching Awareness Through Movement® classes at The Monroe Center for The Arts and seeing clients for individual Functional Integration® lessons at Seasonal Health Wellness Center.

In 2012, Rusty relocated to Portland, ME with his family where he continues to teach Awareness Through Movement® classes and conduct private Functional Integration® lessons.  In April 2013, Rusty was an invited presenter at the University of New England’s Spring Symposium for the College of Health Professions, where he demonstrated the benefits of The Feldenkrais Method® in the treatment of chronic pain.

The Feldenkrais Method®

The Feldenkrais Method® is a form of somatic education that can aid in physical rehabilitation and can assist those affected by neurological conditions that cause movement disorders.  It can also help to reduce anxiety and improve self-image.  For those who consider themselves to be in relatively “good health,” it is also an excellent means by which to maintain optimal self-use, improve posture and prevent injury by learning how to use one’s own musculature in a skillful, efficient manner.  In practice, The Feldenkrais Method® is comprised of two facets:  Awareness Through Movement lessons (typically conducted in a group setting) and Functional Integration lessons (typically conducted privately with an individual student).
