Hiking in the Mournes

There a numerous walking opportunities in the area including; Murlough beach and dunes, Tollymore and Castlewellan forest parks, the Silent Valley, the Mourne coastal path, Newcastle promenade and of course the mountains themselves. Group walks take place throughout the year and I can put you in touch with some excellent local guides. The cottage is also stocked local guide books and maps. I have spent many happy hours tramping over the Mournes and for many years wrote and illustrated a weekly column for the Mourne Observer. Some of the finest walks start from the Mourne Rambler bus stops and lead back to Mourne Coast cottage (In season this bus runs in a circular route around the mountains and there's a bus stop few yards from the cottage near to the Bloody Bridge) .
