About Us

There's an unfortunate misunderstanding floating around the world today:  Christians are goody-two-shoe pious people, who don't sin and spend their time trying to be perfect and make everyone else around them perfect.  These are not Christians...these are Pharisees.  When the world sees the Church and expects law-teaching perfection, it's no wonder that they often accuse the Church of being hypocrites.

The true Lord's Church stands in contrast to this misunderstanding.  As part of this Church, Mt. Calvary is made up of people who are honest about their sin and their Savior. We confess that we are born sinful and continue to be plagued and burdened by our sin and our shame throughout our lives.  Because of our desperate situation--being dead in our sin--Jesus became man and died on the cross for the sins of the world.   He died for those who were too sinful to save themselves.  Apple trees grow apples and sinners sin--but sinners need Jesus. That's Christianity put simply.

As Christians--sinners who believe that Jesus is their Savior--we are given new life in Christ.  His forgiveness and Gospel sets us free from sin and the law so that we can love and serve one another.  Thus, "Jesus on the cross for us" is at the heart of everything we are and everything we do.  As Paul writes, "We preach Christ, and him crucified..." (1 Cor. 1:18), and  that's the basis of our teaching and our confession.  For more information and more specifics regarding this teaching, see our What We Believe page, or just call or stop by Mt. Calvary for worship, Bible class, or just to chat.
