About the Author
Tom Huhnerkoch was born and raised in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. He was the first of his family to attend college, and graduated in 1970 from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Universtiy of Minnesota. After moving around the country for a few years, working on horses, dairy cattle and most all animals, he and his family (Kay his wife since 1969 and Chris his son) moved to land they had purchased in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Here he has practiced mainly small animal medicine and in 1993, received his RN nursing degree from the University of South Dakota.
In 1999, Dr.Tom became a mountain lion advocate after becoming acutely aware of how this wonder of Creation was being portrayed and mishandled. He has been actively trying to make a positive difference since that time and has set up this 501c3 non-profit NGO, Mountain Cats Trust. To date, little funding has been acquired but many good things have been accomplished. Dr. Tom believes that the best and lasting solutions begin with Public education and he concentrates his efforts with young people, starting at the third grade level. He is no stranger to working with children and youth as he spent 15 years with the Boy Scouts of America, helping produce (8) Eagle Scouts, his son Chris one of them. He is passionate about the Puma concolor and wants to see this Great Cat be a part of generations to come.
