Tetsuo Motoba, a senior space physicist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL), is a leading international expert in the area of Earth's magnetosphere-ionosphere physics with a particular focus on auroral dynamics. After earning his Ph.D. in science from the University of Electro-Communications in 2003, he worked at Nagoya University and at National Institute of Polar Research in Japan. In 2016, he joined the JHU/APL. One of his research goals is to develop an understanding of Earth's magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling processes behind aurorae through data analysis of spaceborne and ground-based observations.
