"Amanda was such an incredible person to have present during the birth of our son Elliot. At first, I wasn't too sure if I needed a doula because I knew my husband would be such a great coach. But I am so glad we decided to have Amanda there! The days leading up to his birthday I would call her and tell her what I was feeling and how tired I was of being pregnant. She was truly encouraging telling me it wouldn't be too long and to relax and rest up. Amanda was always just a phone call or text away, it was very comforting to have someone I could call and talk to. On the actual birthday she was amazing, when we first arrived at the hospital our nurse was a little snobby after reading our plans for a natural birth, she actually made me cry with her rudeness. Amanda talked with her and the next thing I knew she was like the nurse from heaven, so sweet and kind. I believe that is because Amanda did such a great job talking with her and helping her feel comfortable with our plan. During my labor Elliot was a little high, and Amanda knew all the right things to help him move down so I could start pushing. If it hadn't been for her my labor would have probably been longer, but it was only 8 hours! She gave me her hand when I was pushing, and I'm pretty sure I broke a couple fingers from squeezing them so hard, but she never complained. :) I am so thankful we had Amanda at our birth, and we plan on having her at our next one!
