Why Mothers & Babies First?

Over time, it seems that we have lost our way in supporting new families. As health care becomes more of a profit driven business. The well being and care of new mothers and their babies is not necessarily the first priority at many birth facilities. In fact, instead of the United States having the best outcomes and the lowest maternal and infant mortality rates, the US ranks far worse than many other countries in the world.

Mothers & Babies First advocates for the improvement of maternity care through evidence-based practices as well as empowering women in their journey to motherhood.

As you browse through this site, you will find information and links that will help you learn more about the services offered and the Mothers & Babies First™   philosophy.

"First and foremost, we are the voice of the
 American maternity care consumer.
That voice grows more powerful every day."

Improving Birth is pleased to announce a new direction for our work. We are merging forces with BirthNetwork National, a national grassroots chapter organization, and the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS), best known for the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI). The MCFI was the nation’s first and only consensus document which defines the ten specific steps a maternity care provider or birthing facility can take to provide evidence-based, mother- and baby-centered maternity care. As of November 1, 2016, all three organizations will exist under the expanded banner of Improving Birth.

CIMS (now a part of Improving Birth) also works to create more - vitally important - transparency in maternity care and for that purpose, created The Birth Survey

mothers' milk bank

In 2013, Mothers’ Milk Bank distributed over 570,000 oz. of donated mother's milk to preterm infants and children unable to digest other sources of nutrition. Donors from many states continue to support our effort to answer the call from babies who need donor milk to survive and supply enough donor milk to feed premature infants in hospitals.
Donors are always needed.

Please consider donating and help save a infant's life.
The MMB is on Facebook too. Check it out.
