Following is a list of some of the fun social events the chapter has held for moms and families. Do you have a great idea for something fun to do? Please contact the group for more information and/or to volunteer.
Every couple of months we plan a special moms-only social event. Some fun things we have done are: dinner at Destihl, froyo and a movie on the quad, drinks at the Wedge patio, gone out for karaoke, games and fun at a member's house. We've had special daytime outings, too, like painting pottery at Pottery Place, doing brunch and an old movie at the Virginia, and making glass ornaments at Prairie Fire Glass. Members let the social committee know if there's something interesting coming up, and we make plans!
We have a really active book club with some great titles that generate a lot of conversation. We meet once a month to spend a little time discussing and a lot of time catching up, so members are welcome to attend whether they've read the book or not. Recent reads have included A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, Let's Pretend this Never Happened by Jenny Lawson, The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman, Arranged by Catherine McKenzie, and NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman.
We have a moms (and little babies) coffee meetup just about every week, either at a favorite shop in town or at a member's house. Occasionally -- like when school is not in session -- this coffee meetup coincides with an at-home playgroup for kids of all ages.
During the school year, we try to meet every few months for a "come as you are" breakfast, either potluck-style at a member's home or at a favorite breakfast spot in town.
We meet somewhere local to chat or discuss a topic that's on our member's minds. Check the facebook page to find the next meeting.
Every year, the chapter hosts a few special events for the whole family to enjoy. These have included a summer ice cream social, an autumn hayride, and a springtime pizza party. Members, please check your email and Calendar for more information about the next fun family activity!
