 Welcome, Motherless Daughters...

I hope you find some of the information here helpful.  If you are looking for further support, individually, or in the company of other motherless daughters in a group, workshop or Motherless Daughters Mother's Day Gathering,  please contact me.

For motherless daughters, women who have lost their mothers through death, separation, illness or estrangement  in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood I offer long or short-term individual psychotherapy and counseling, groups for motherless daughters, and workshops.  Phone sessions also offered.

Since 1997 I've developed and facilitated safe, successful time-limited and on-going psychodynamic Motherless Daughters Support Groups for women to explore relevant issues in their lives, current and past, heal from loss and trauma, understand how the past influences the present, and pursue personal goals.  I also offer individual, couple,  and family sessions.

I've relocated my private practice of 20+ years in Mill Valley, CA to my primary office in Kentfield, CA, in Marin County, 7 miles North of Mill Valley, 13 miles North of San Francisco, 11 miles to Pt. Richmond,  14 miles to Novato, 3 miles West of San Rafael, 1 mile S of San Anselmo.   I also have a secondary office in West Marin.

I have maintained a general private practice for 25 years in Marin, serving individuals, couples, families, and groups.  I am also a "motherless daughter," since my mother's death in adolescence, a life-transforming event.  I have written articles about my personal experience and I am quoted in Hope Edelman's books, "Motherless Daughters" and "Motherless Mothers." I began facilitating Motherless Daughters Support Groups following publication of Hope's  "Motherless Daughters in 1997.".

In 2014 I was honored to be on a panel hosted by Hope Edelman and celebrating the 20th anniversary release of "Motherless Daughters", a NYTimes best-seller.

My specialties are loss, trauma, "motherless daughters," "high-demand groups", spiritual and clergy abuse, domestic abuse,  transitions, meaning of life issues.  I work interactively and collaboratively with an integrated cognitive, relational, psychodynamic, systems orientation  to meet each client's individual needs.  Studies have shown that the "fit" between therapist and client is primary to successful outcomes.  Motherless Daughters often express their appreciation that they are "heard" and understood because I am a  motherless daughter and motherless mother, and have devoted much of my professional career to this focus. My work is meaningful and gratifying for me.  I deeply appreciate all I learn from other motherless daughters,  and I believe that every client deserves the utmost respect and understanding in her process of recovery.
