Kolhapur, Panhala

Dairy Entry

This trip is probably the least planned one I've done till date. I decided to go Kolhapur on Friday morning and immediately booked train tickets for Friday night. I reached the city before the break of dawn. An auto driver took me to a house that would rent their bathroom for taking a quick bath.

After the quick wash i visited the Mahalakshmi temple. During the day i visited a quaint little hill town called Amboli. My rechargeables drained for some unknown reason and i could take no photograph. By 5 in the evening i was back at Kolhapur and bought new batteries. I decided to visit the Hill fort Panhala, about an hour away from the city.

The evening breeze and a mellowed down sun, made the journey an absolute pleasure. The small town in the lap of the mountains was just picture perfect. I hired an auto rickshaw @ Rs.80, for all local sight seeing. The driver took me to a view point and then a huge granary, both totally devoid of tourists. I enjoyed every minute - thanks to the pleasant climate and peaceful surroundings. Finally after a visit to the main fortress bid good bye to Panhala.

Itinerary/Tips

Took night trains front and back on Friday and Saturday night. Quiet a well connected city. Good bus services to all nearby places.
