I did my PhD at Simon Fraser University (Canada) on coupling randomized path planning with image-based control of robotic arms and mobile manipulators. I received my Masters degree from University of Regina (Canada), and Bachelor degree from Sharif University of Technology (Iran).
In 2011, I joined the CMU Robotics Institute as a post-doctoral fellow working (with J. Andrew (Drew) Bagnell and Nancy Pollard) on the development of novel force compliant grasping and manipulation strategies for DARPA Autonomous Robotic Manipulation (ARM) challenge. I was then hired as a full-time employee at CMU and continued to lead the CMU ARM-S manipulation software developments at the CMU National Robotics Engineering Center. Over the past 15 years, I have been involved in various robotics projects from mobile robot control and navigation to force compliant manipulation and grasping (see the list below); I was a member of Sharif-CE RoboCup soccer player robots team (1997-2002) which won the world championships in 1999 and 2000, and Europe championships in 2000. I am in close collaboration with Geography department at Simon Fraser University (Canada) leading the software design and integration of a smart data acquisition cart for a hydraulic flume.
In August 2013 I joined Brain Corporation as a scientist to work on the development of learning capabilities for robotic arms to perform everyday reaching, grasping and manipulation tasks.
My main interests are robotic manipulation and grasping, path planning and vision-based control of robotic arms, and smart systems software/hardware integration.
