The Will of Richard Battersby of Westleigh, Farmer and Shopkeeper Dec 1843 
Extracts from the original Will at Lancashire Records Office, a very lengthy Will of seven pages and two Codicils
    I give and bequeath to my cousin Mary Mort during her life the weekly sum of twenty one shillings and to my late housekeeper Margaret Whittle during her life
    the weekly sum of of three shillings and sixpence out of the rents of my estate in Lowton.
    Unto Benjamin Sheldon of Sheldon in the county of Derby, Yeoman, Daniel Horobin of Nab End near Longton? In the county of Stafford, farmer and Arnold
    Farnworth of Astley, Gentleman all that my estate lying in Fearnhead.
    My nephew Thomas Battersby attains the age of twenty one years shall receive the rents and profits of my said estates.
    All the trust monies, stocks, funds and securities shall be divided in equal shares the children of my late uncles Mathew Sheldon and Benjamin Sheldon and of  
    my aunts Ann Horibin  and Jimeson Bunbridge
    signed witnesses William Thorp, Silk Manufacturer, Leigh and Richard Marsh, Solicitor, Leigh
Note: there are some initialled changes to this will, the word late uncles being inserted after the Will was signed and witnessed on Aug 29, 1845
A handwritten note on the back of this will states: The testator died this eighteenth day of Novembr in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty five
also the seventeeth day of February in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty six, Benjamin Sheldon and Arnold Farnworth two of the executors named in this
Will sworn in common form, power being reserved to Daniel Horobin, personal estate and effects under £4000

The first of two Codicils
    This is a Codicil to the last will and testament of me Richard Battersby of Bedford Mills, Yeoman. I give and bequeath to my natural son Henry Leech, son of Alice
    Leech of Bedford, Spinster the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds and to Samuel Mosscrop of Bedford, Bookeeper I also give and bequeath the sum of two
    hundred and fifty pounds. Dated Oct 18, 1845
The second of the two Codicils
    All my personal estate in manner mentioned uno Benjamin Sheldon, Daniel Horobin and Arnold Farnworth in the said will described the executors. Now I revoke
    the said bequest….I bequeath all my said personal estate of what nature or kind…and confirm unto and equally the children of my late uncles Mathew Sheldon and
   Benjamin Sheldon and of my late aunt Ann Horobin and the grandchildren of my late aunt Jimeson Bunbridge equally. Dated Nov 13, 1845 signed R. Marsh Solicitor, Leigh
