Extracted from the Will of James Mort of Great Bolton, Gentleman 1819 Nov 1 at LRO
I James Mort of Great Bolton in the county of Lancaster, gentleman do for the settling of my wordly 
concerns make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following. I give
and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Cheetham who now lives with me the sum of five pounds for her
care and attention to me, and taking care of my house, and the same to be for her own use and benefit.
Also I give and devise all and every my messuages, cottages and dwelling houses, lands, tenements
and hereditment, household goods and furniture whatesoever and wheresover to me belonging unto my
son John Mort of Great Bolton aforesaid manufacturer, my grandson James Mort of Tyldesley in the said
county Shopkeeper and John Albinson of Great Bolton, aforesaid Land Surveyor their heirs, executors
and Administrations and assigns for and during all my estates, sell and dispose of all my said houses,
lands of Inheritance and the moneys arising to be paid and divided into seven equal parts. One seventh
share to be paid unto my son Richard Mort, one seventh part to my daughter Betty Crook, the wife of
Mordaci Crook, one seventh part to my said son John Mort, one seventh part to my son James Mort, 
one seventh part to my daughter Mary Platt the wife of James Platt, one seventh part to my said 
daughter Ann Cheetham, one seventh part to my daughter Martha Webster the wife of Edward Webster.
And I nominate and appoint the said John Mort, James Mort and John Albinson to be Executors and
Trustees of this my last will and testament set my hand and seal 18 June 1816 . He made his mark.
Notes added state that the testator died 16 Oct 1819. 1 Nov executors sworn in common form
personal estate and effects under 450£.

The Will of James Mort (born 1732 Great Bolton) made in 1816 mentions his grandson James Mort of Tyldesley, Shopkeeper
     To detemine which of the several sons of Grandfather James Mort was the father of Grandson James Mort further study may reveal the answer.
     From his three marriage there are several sons but the majority died young. One of only three sons could be the father of Grandson James.
     1) Richard chr Apr 21, 1756  and mentioned in his fathers Will of 1816. He had a son James who was a shopkeeper on the 1841 Census for Tyldesley
     2) James chr Aug 13, 1769 and married Esther Morris in 1794, they had a son James chr Jan 12, 1800 but would he be old enough to be a shopkeeper in 1816
     3) John born after 1780 and mentioned in his fathers Will of 1816 as manufacturer. If he did have children would any of them be old enough to be a shopkeeper by 1816

    Christopher Irving born at Kirklinton near Carlisle on Jul 21, 1757. He was a timber merchant, with a house in Wallgate and business premises in King St, and is described
    in Baines History Directory and Gazetter of 1825 as being a retail brewer. Dying on May 9, 1838 he was buried at Wigan. His gravestone, now covered gives his age as 82.
    Mother of Robert Irving and siblings was Margaret Finch, fourth daughter and seventh youngest child of Ralph and Alice Finch, born at Wallgate, 
    Wigan baptised Parish Church Sep 13, 1770 married Parish Church, Wigan Mar 3, 1805
    Children 1) William Irving Born Sep 22, 1808 married Jane Raw
                  2) Robert Irving born at Wigan on Jan 29, 1812. He married Ellen Mort, a member of an old Wigan family and sister of Dr Mort of Southport, but she died soon after 
                      marriage leaving no issue. He died at 17 Meadow St, Moss side, Manchester on Jan 8, 1890. He married again on Dec 7, 1843 at Parish Church, Wigan his second
                      wife being Sarah Varley second daughter of Joseph Varley, Standishgate, Wigan Wine and Spirit Merchant. He carried on his late fathers brewery but he failed
                      to make it pay and came to financial disaster.
                  3) Ralph Finch Irving born Oct 9, 1813 at Wigan married Sarah Dare
                  4) Jane Irving born Wigan married William Head Dowson at Wigan on Feb 26, 1835
Also in the same book mentions the Will of Wiliam Finch who was buried Sep 10, 1699
    He mentions messuage near the Halgate called the Jewes-hall held by lease under Thomas Mortt Esq and Alexander Mortt, Gent to my son Lawrence Finch, his exors
    and assigns

    This is the last will and testament of me James Mort of Tyldesley with Shakerley, Gentleman.
    I give and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Mort of Tyldesley with Shakerley, Spinster, all my household goods and furniture, plate, linen,
    china, glass, pictures, books, wines and liquors absolutely.
    I also give and bequeath to my son William Mort of Southport, Doctor of Medicine all my clothes and wearing apparel.
    And to all my three shops and dwelling houses belonging and situate in Castle St, Tyldesley, and all that chief or ground rent of four pounds three
    shillings yearly issuing out of land in or near to Shuttle St in Tyldesley, and by my late son Henry Mort leased to Joseph Harwood and also all that
    capital messuage or dwelling situate near to Wareing St in Tyldesley and commonly called Prospect House formerly occupied by my late son Henry
    Mort. And also all that messuage situate in Elliot St in Tyldesley and now in my own occupation. (Long Will listing all his properties and shops)
    I give and bequeath one moity of equal half share unto my son the said William Mort, and the same to my daughter Margaret Mort.
    Set my hand and seal this first day of February eighteen hundred and fifty five, signed by James Mort
