Death of Mr Thomas Mort- A well-known Hindley Tradesman

We regret to announce the death, which took place last week of Mr Thomas Mort, one of the oldest tradesman in the township. Mr Mort
who was a native of Hindley was 76 years of age, and had been in failing health for some time. He had been in business all his life, first
starting in the boot and shoe trade, and then developing an extensive Pawn Broking business at premises in Market St. Mr Mort was a 
sturdy example of the old school of English Gentleman, and was a familiar figure in the township. For over fifty years he had been a
trustee og the Hindley Conservative Club and had always taken an active interest in the political life of the township. He attended both
All saints and St Peters Churches, and was highly respected.
Mr Mort had never been abent at the annual general meeting for a consecutive period of 52 years. He held many offices in the club
and at the time of his death was the oldest director of the Hindley Conservative Building Co Ltd, which had been carried on by his two
sons under the name of M and T Mort. He leaves a widow, and two sons, having lost a son, Mr John Mort in the War.

Death of Mrs S E Mort of Hindley
The death occurred of Mrs Sarah Elizabeth Mort on Tuesday last week at her residence, 2 Lowe Mill Lane, Hindley, at the age of 72.
The deceased lady was a member of a well known Hindley family, being the widow of the late Mr Thomas Mort, who was in business in Hindley
for a consideable number of years as a boot dealer and pawnbroker, and she was the daughter of the late Mr H Myers of Hindley and
The funeral took place on Friday, last week, the interment being in the family vault at Hindley Cemetry.
The morners were councilor H M Mort (son) and Mr T Mort (son) and Mr Fairhurst (son in law, Southport).

Death of Miss E Mort - A Hindley Church Worker
It is with regret that we have to record the death of Miss Eliza Mort, of Alder heyes, Hindley who passed away at her residence on the 4th
August. The deceased lady who was 84 years of age, had been predominently connected with St Peters Church during the great part
of her life. A service was held in St Peters Church before interment, which took place in the family vault at Hindley Cemetry on Tuesday last week.
