This month's Kaleidoscope of Blessings will go to Laurelville Christian Center.

There will be a Spring Cleaning event at the church in April.  Date and time will be announced in the coming weeks.

Our annual Love Feast will be Thursday, April 13 at 6:00 p.m.  The evening will include foot washing, a light meal, and communion.

There will be an Easter brunch at 8:30am on Easter Sunday. Please bring a dish to share.

This month's Kaleidoscope of Blessings will go to Morgantown Christian Help.

You can nurture your children’s faith at home this Lent and Easter with family worship. Find a free, downloadable guide at www.anabaptistfaithformation.org. For use between March 1 and April 16 (Easter Sunday), it includes a daily Bible reading, short litany, songs, hands-on activities and questions to ponder together.

March 1 is Ash Wednesday.  The church will be open that day from 5-7pm.  Wes will be there to pray with you and offer you the gift of ashes.  Come and go as you wish.

 

We will be hosting the Allegheny Mennonite Conference meeting on March 4. You may attend as a delegate or guest.

This month's Kaleidoscope of Blessings will go to Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS), “a volunteer network of Anabaptist churches that responds in Christian love to those affected by disasters in Canada and the United States.  While the main focus is on clean up, repair and rebuilding homes, this service touches lives and nurtures hope, faith, and wholeness.” (MDS Mission Statement)  See www.mds.mennonite.net for more information.

The adult Sunday school class is exploring a class series called Painting the Stars: Science, Religion, and an Evolving Faith.  All are welcome.

Rachel Fetty is hosting a “Next Steps” meeting for participants in the Women’s March and interested allies.  The meeting will be at 131 Waitman St. at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5.  For more information, contact Rachel at 304-376-8823 or ralfetty@yahoo.com.

Wes Bergen is hosting a “You Don’t Even Have to Watch” Super Bowl party on Feb 5, starting some time after 5 p.m.  The game doesn’t start until 6:30, but if you don’t want to watch, it doesn’t matter.  Some will want to watch the game, but there are good spaces in the house to gather and talk that don’t have TV screens.  Bring food, drinks, or just a smiling face.


PSALM (Proud Students Against Landmines) students from St. Francis de Sales School will host an opening reception for the “We Are Connected” Art Exhibit at the Monongalia Arts Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10.  The exhibit will be displayed until March 4.

This month's Kaleidoscope of Blessings will go to West Virginia Health Right. The mission of WV Health Right is to provide quality medical, dental, pharmaceutical, and health education services to the uninsured, underinsured, and medically underserved low-income adults.

The adult Sunday school class has started a class series called Painting the Stars: Science, Religion, and an Evolving Faith. All are welcome.

There will be a movie night at View at the Park on Friday, January 13 at 6:30 p.m. Linda and Sue will provide drinks and some finger food snacks. Other snacks are welcome, but not necessary. The movie will be “Where to Invade Next,” a documentary from Michael Moore, which is rated R.

Special Notes for October

This month's Kaleidoscope of Blessings will go to the Mountaineer Food Bank.  This is the largest emergency food provider in our state, providing food and household items to over 400 programs in 48 counties.  For more information, visit www.mountaineerfoodbank.org. 

The adult Sunday school class is starting a class series called Painting the Stars: Science, Religion, and an Evolving Faith.  All are welcome.

Later this fall, adult Sunday school will have a discussion about joining the Supportive Congregations Network (SCN).  For more information, see the website at bmclgbt.org/scn.

Kroger will give money to Christian Help every time you use your Kroger Plus card.  For details, see motownchristianhelp.com.

There will be a Pumpkin Pie Baking event at the church on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m.  Please bring your pie plates, as we bake pumpkin pie from scratch.

The Greater Morgantown Interfaith Association is holding an event at First Presbyterian Church on October 23 at 4:00 p.m.  There will be several speakers and a pot-luck multicultural dinner.  See the bulletin board for more details.

Over the next year, we are inviting each family at MCOB to plan one congregational event. These could be fun events (skating, bowling, swimming), community building events (service project, singing) or more serious events (Bible study evening, letter writing campaign). We are hoping to have one such event every month, plus Wes will plan another one. We will send around a sign-up sheet during worship. Feel free to plan these events with others at MCOB.

Now that Wes is getting settled in his role as half-time pastor at MCoB, the Pastor Congregation Relations Team (PCRT) would like to remind the congregation of their availability.  The PCRT serves as a support group to Wes as well as the primary point of contact for him in relation to concerns from or about the congregation.  Additionally, the PCRT works with Wes to determine his job description.  Should you have a concern related to Wes or his work that you do not feel comfortable sharing with him directly, please contact a member of PCRT: Corey Anderson, Sue Overman, or Erin Leatherman.

Special Notes for September

This month's Kaleidoscope of Blessings will go to help Deb Bergen in her upcoming trip to Nigeria. Deb will be working with Mobile Member Care Team (MMCT), the same organization she worked with in Ghana. MMCT provides mental health care and training to mission workers throughout West Africa. Some funding is already being provided by Mennonite Mission Network. Your contribution will cover additional expenses, travel to the training for a woman from Cameroon, and auto parts she is bringing to the pastor of Somanya Mennonite Church in Ghana.

Also on September 11, the Community Coalition for Social Justice will hold its annual meeting at 2:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (429 Warrick St.).

The youth group is going zip lining at New River Gorge on September 17.  If you would like to join, talk to Wes.

We are currently in our summer schedule.  Following a 10:30 a.m. worship service, all are invited to a picnic potluck at the Wiles Hill Park.  Please bring a dish to share and tableware for yourself.

During August, we will be having Fellowship Time (aka snacks) after church and before the picnic.  If your family would be willing to host a Sunday, please contact Cindy Lewellen at cwlewellen@gmail.com or 304-599-1763.

The Allegheny Mennonite Conference Celebration of Congregations and Conference will take place at Laurelville Mennonite Church Center August 5-7.

The church will be hosting an Ice Cream Social for the neighborhood from 6-8 p.m. the evening of Sunday, August 21.  We will walk the neighborhood distributing invitations after church on August 14.  If you are able to help on either day, please contact Cindy Lewellen.

Special Notes for July

Kaleidoscope of Blessings for the month goes to Anabaptist Disabilities Network.

We are currently in our summer schedule.  Following a 10:30 a.m. worship service, all are invited to a picnic potluck at the Wiles Hill Park.  Please bring a dish to share and tableware for yourself.

On July 3rd, we will be celebrating Peace Sunday.  The congregation is invited to share stories, quotes, Bible verses or songs about peace.

The TriState Relief Sale is July 15-16 at the Garret County Fairgrounds in Maryland.  For more information visit tristatesale.org.

We will have our Outdoor Service on Sunday, July 17 at Owl Creek Farm.  Camping is available for Saturday night.

Due to the severe flooding in much of West Virginia, the West Marva Disaster and Relief Committee is looking for volunteers to go on a work team to help clean up or do whatever is needed. The work would probably be in Nicholas and Greenbrier counties, which could be a one day trip for most of us.  If interested, please contact the District office or Wallace Whitacre at 301-876-8487.
