Design Criteria
When you go into the Ideate phase, you will come up with multiple ideas to solve the problem you have just investigated. How will je judge your ideas on the fit to your problem? You translate your findings in the Define phase into Design Criteria and you use these Design Criteria to "measure" the fit of your ideas to your problem.
First you list al your Design Criteria and explain why they are important (reasoning) then you prioritise your criteria so you can use them to validate your ideas.
Your design criteria should be based on the research that you have done, so its a good idea to base the criteria on the validation board and the value proposition canvas. For example (you can use other methods to list your design criteria):
Design Criteria Template | Reasoning | | Criteria Based on Job to be Done | | | | What is the essence of the problem you are solving (from Value Proposition Canvas) | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Desires and Anxieties | | | | (from Value Proposition Canvas) | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Customer Experience | | | | (from Value Proposition Canvas) | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Benefits | | | | (from Value Proposition Canvas) | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Features | | | | (from Value Proposition Canvas) | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Physical Aspects | | | | Like seize, weight, battery life, materials used, etc. | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Usebility | | | | Like ease of use, portability, setup time, learning curve etc. | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Feasebility (technical) | | | | Like availability of technology, complexety, durability, reliability, power use, etc | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Viability (financial) | | | | What can customer pay, can you make it and sell it for that price? | Why these criteria? | | Criteria Based on Environment (DEPEST) | | | | Like social, environmental, ethical, cultural and legislative issues | Why these criteria? | | | | | Priority Design Criteria | Weight | | 1 | | 10 points | | 2 | | 5 points | | 3 | | 5 points | | 4 | | 5 points | | 5 | | 3 points | | 6 | | 3 points | | 7 | | 3 points | | 8 | | 3 points | | 9 | | 2 points | | 10 | | 2 points | | 11 | | 2 points | | 12 | | 2 points | | 13 | | 2 points | | 14 | | 1 point | | 15 | | 1 point | | 16 | | 1 point | | 17 | | 1 point | | 18 | | 1 point | | 19 | | 1 point | | 20 | | 1 point |
