Monte Erickson grew up on a farm near Arlington, SD. He started
playing in local bands in the Brookings area while he was in high
school. He even played with a country band named

Winchester for a while! After high school he went to the University
of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD, where he majored in Music
Education (trombone and voice), and Public Relations/Broadcast Journalism. While in
college he played with Eye for an Eye and Penny Dreadful.

After graduation, Monte worked as Entertainment Director at Mystyx in Sioux City and took time off the band thing until he was asked to join Moana Lisa. He eventually married Lisa, and played with the band for over five years. In 2003 Monte formed a blues/rock power trio with a former Kansas City session drummer and a guitar/bass player from Moana Lisa. He joined the Clams sometime around November of '04.

When asked what his musical influences are, Monte rattled off a list of bands, including Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Humble Pie, “Randy-era” Ozzy, Cream, Yardbirds,  Johnny Cash, David Allan Coe, Doors, Boston, AC/DC, and a whole lot more.

Monte plays through Peavey Wolfgang guitar, a 1982 Ibanez Artist Super Edition, and a Roland equipped Fender Strat. As far as amplification goes, he uses a peavey 5150 II 120 watt 1/2 stack and a Tech 21 Trademark 120 combo. He uses a Dunlop Crybaby, a Boss Modeling wah, an Alesis Midiverb, an Alesis Microverb, and a Roland Guitar Synth for effects.
