(extra)ordinary, (un)usual episode III

The third instalment of our sell-out monologue showcase enjoyed another successful season at New Theatre in May 2015. We staged brand new monologues with a kick-arse new cast.

"Malicki has fulfilled his brief and given us a show that is as good as any mainstream entertainment, with a very talented young cast."
- Joy Minter, The Buzz from Sydney

"Performed by Sydney's best stage actors."
- Ellen Hird, Weekend Notes

There is plenty to be had for a very fun, very affordable night at the theatre.

(extra)ordinary, (un)usual II trailer

We are returning to New Theatre on Wed 18 June from 7:30pm.

The show is made up of Pete Malicki’s award-winning monologues, performed by some of Sydney’s best actors including an AFI nominee and a world-record-holding improviser!

New Theatre
542 King Street, Newtown
Weds 21 May, 7:30pm
$18.50 / $16.50 (concession)

The plays have been showcased in festivals around the world and won awards including Best Drama, Best Comedy, People’s Choice Award and Best Script. They have been staged on the West End and at prestigious events such as the Edinburgh Fringe.

Our stories include that of how a man with an incredibly heightened sense of smell landed himself in prison, a checkout chick from Coles, an addiction addict, a funeral crier, the real version of Sir Edmund Hilary’s ascent of Everest, the town death magnet, and a woman who sees people at their darkest moments.

There’s also a special surprise at the end – but we’re not saying what!

What people said about (extra)ordinary, (un)usual I and II:

If you wear make-up, put on waterproof mascara, as you are likely to leave the theatre crying from laughing so much.” Reviewer: (extra)ordinary, (un)usual II

Malicki takes theatre for the people to a whole new level, competing directly with film and television, and using what is unique about theatre (real people, real audience) to make an impact its competitors can’t challenge.” Reviewer

…a beautifully crafted and delivered selection of monologues… Overall, it was an astonishingly brilliant night of theatre that was truly inspiring.” Reviewer

All in all it was a great night out. Sadly it was only on for two nights. Hopefully Pete will bring it back with more hilarious monologues.” Reviewer

VD highlights

V.D. is one of the most successful contemporary monologues in the world, with over a dozen awards to its name. In April and May 2014, The Monologue Project presented award-winning actress Eliza St John in a tour of NSW.

We played at New Theatre (Sydney) to standing ovations and critical acclaim, Cootamundra, Gosford, Cronulla and Bundanoon.
You can see the highlight reel on this YouTube video.

We staged our first episode of
(extra)ordinary, (un)usual  in November 2013. This included 8 of our best monologues performed by Sydney's hottest actors. We were very pleased to have sold out the second of our two performances!

About the show
The Monologue Project is all about putting on shows that the average person wants to see. We are not making theatre that only regular theatre-goers will like. The 8 monologues included in (extra)ordinary (un)usual are fascinating and engaging stories which stand up in their own rights.

Producer and writer, Pete Malicki, says,

I'm not a theatre person. It's not my first choice of a night out and quite frankly I'd rather catch a movie or read a book. Sadly, I think a big part of the reason is that the people making theatre are making it for themselves, not for people like you or me. My biggest aim in putting on this show is to create something that the average person will enjoy as much as a night out at Hoyts!
