Cornichons, Part VI

Auxin is the most amazing plant hormone.  It is concentrated in the apical meristems of plants, the tips of stems where growth is rapid and strong. It's in root tips. It helps both stems and roots respond appropriately to gravity, and in the case of tendrils, it responds to touch--thigmotropism.

This is a tendril of one of my cucumbers.

And here is a baby! They're almost ready for harvest. I want to collect them while they're small and tender, so my pickles will be tiny and sweet. I've discovered some thrips, despite my traps, so it won't be too soon.
