Very happy and proud to be part of the CoolCat (Constrained oligonucleotide-based catalysts) consortium, headed by Nicolas Spinelli (DCM UGA Grenoble, France) and involving CEA Grenoble (C. Marchi-Delapierre & S. MĂ©nage). A short summary? I would say that it is now crucial to develop environmentally improved enantioselective routes for the production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Replacement of stoichiometric reagents for synthetic reactions with catalytic routes is one of the most efficient methods to develop greener, safer, and more cost-effective chemical processes. In this context, we aim at developing the use of synthetic nucleic acid catalysts as they are chemically synthesized via well-defined, inexpensive and automated procedures and they can withstand repeated rounds of denaturation/renaturation cycles without notable degradation.
