Update - Thursday 2 February 2012

posted 2 Feb 2012, 14:57 by Monash Running

We will be in action on Tuesday next 7th February 2012

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

This week

Melbourne weather – we almost froze on Tuesday night – after ‘cooking’ last week !

But a great turn out again - 42 – and a few potential new squad members came along – we hope they enjoyed the experience enough to return.

Those new squad members we welcomed this week were ; Sue Mei Lim, Meagan Trist, Naz Helmi, Jade Barbuto & Joshua Chan – hope to see you all in action with us again next Tuesday

Len took the whistle this week to control the session – 8 x 60sec efforts – and it was surprisingly incident free

Thanks again to all who sent me apologies for their absence on Tuesday evening – much appreciated.

·        I’m continuing to try to contact those of you who are still on our mailing list – but haven’t made it of a Tuesday evening for quite some time. If you are in this category but haven’t heard from me, please take the initiative & sent me an update on your plans for 2012 as far as our squad is concerned

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our  weekly Saturday morning Hill session WILL NOT go ahead again next Saturday morning (4th February) – as many are competing in the afternoon.

But we will possibly be back in action on Saturday week – 11th February. I’ll advise about this early next week.

Excellent  turn out last Saturday – and some great running.

Our Website ‘Monash University Running Squad’

Simon in Sweden

Simon Bowly, one of our committed squad members, is in Sweden studying, for 6 months. He’s sent us the below shot with the message;

Lake track (though I suppose its technically ocean) - looking a bit more impressive than the Monash lake circuit I've got to say (apologies to TV) — at Lappis

Monash Sport  -Discovery Day – Sunday Feb 26.

Discovery Day is a new initiative being put on by Monash Sport. They are opening their doors and showing off all of the programs and facilities that they have to offer! The main target audience is new students, but they are also targeting current students, potential students, staff, almuni and the wider community.

It will run between 2pm - 6pm & there are a number of ways clubs/groups can get involved, these include setting up an information table, doing a demonstration, or putting on a display.

I’m keen for our running Squad to have a presence on the day – so if you’d be prepared to help even if just for an hour or so please let me know.

For your Diaries

The 2012 Emer Casey Fun Run will be conducted at the Monash Clayton Campus on Sunday morning 27th May (5k & 10k) runs. All proceeds go to a most deserving charity & this is one event that I’m particularly keen for all members of our squad to support. More details later.
