TV's Update - 29th November 2012

posted 3 Dec 2012, 17:23 by Monash Running

This week – Tuesday 27th November 2012

·        See Chris Allan next week to book / pay (just $5) for our great annual Christmas barbeque celebration to be held on Tuesday 18th December (details below). So far the response has been excellent – promises to be a fun event.

After a very ordinary/wet morning – that seemed to influence a few to not bring along their running gear – Tuesday evening this week  finished up being great  for running.

A couple more new faces this week –  Heidi Dalton & Brian O’Donovan ( best wishes to Brian for a big result in the Busselton Ironman on the 9th December) – and Mark Ciotola was there after a long absence.

We had a pretty good attendance again this week – there were 43 of us. When I look at last year’s numbers we are certainly well up in numbers this year.

This week’s session was Mona Fartlek, a tough session  – with Len at the whistle yet again. For Len’s sake, I hope he’ll be back participating in the sessions very soon – next week maybe ?

As previously mentioned, with the Summer Athletics Season now under way a number of our squad members are racing on the track, usually of a Saturday afternoon. If any of you would be interested in trying a track race (800m, 1500m, 3000m or 5000m) just chat to me – this can be easily arranged.

·        Thanks to those of you thoughtful enough to send apologies if for any reason you couldn’t make it this week.

Don’t hesitate to ask me if you would like any help at all with a regular training program and/or ideas on opportunities to get into a few races to test your progress.

MOVEMBER – PLEASE GET BEHIND JUSTIN, MATTHEW, NENAD, & CHRIS – all amounts donated, large or small, will be most welcome

Your final chance

A few of our Running Group regulars – Justin Bott, Chris Allan. Nenad Radosevic, & Matthew Thompson – are most generously - & with little regard for what it does to their profiles – participating in ‘Movember’

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Australia and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health

'Mospaces' allow people to donate money how about supporting one or more of the guys – all amounts greatly appreciated – no matter how small (or large) .

Chris’s mospace is;

Matthew’s mospace is;

Justin’s mospace is;

Nenad’s mospace is;

·        Please all do your best to support Justin, Nenad, Chris & Matthew in this most important initiative.

Some News

·        For your Diary - Our 2012 Christmas Party / BBQ – is scheduled for Tuesday 18th December – straight after our training session – so at 7pm. It’ll be held in the BBQ courtyard at the rear of the Sports Building, overlooking the ovals. This is always a great event so PLEASE do your best to attend.

Chris Allan has now started taking names, & payments to cover costs (just $5). A few of us paid on Tuesday night

If any of you would like to offer to help with arrangements before & on the night – please let me or Chris know. Many hand make light work !

As usual we will be in action on Tuesday evening next, 4th December

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (1st December) - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there. We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) -  out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

I know that once again there will be quite a few of our regulars absent this week – due to the fact that Shield T & F competition is on again, however I hope a few of you make it.

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

If you haven't completed a form already, please click on the link below to download a form, complete it and bring it to the next session and give it to me /TV.

I will have spare blank forms with me of a Tuesday evening. Thanks to the great many of you who have completed & returned forms to me already.

Running Diaries

I still have a limited supply of Running Diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one.

A great number of you now have diaries – how about starting to bring them along on Tuesday evening for me to review your progress ?
