    • Question 8: I have forgotten my password for cashbook.  How to I reset it or get it emailed or texted to me?
    • Answer 8: Password is used to protect your privacy. When you get the software, there is no password. You can set it from Main Menu -> Options -> Password Protection.

The password is saved in your phone. We, as software provider, don't have your password at all.

Here is the solution if you forget your password. You can uninstall the Cashbook and reinstall it again from Android Market. Re-installation is always free for the paid customer.  If you did database backup to SD card before, you can restore previously saved database from SD card by Main Menu -> Options -> Database Restore. If not, with this solution, you will lose all your previously entered data.
Again, password is used to protect your privacy. Without correct password, we don't allow access to your data.
    • Question 9: I can not see the predefined categories in the category list. How can I do?
    • Answer 9: Income and Expense Category list is an expandable list. You can click on Expense or Income to expand/Collapse the list. When the list is expanded, you can see all the predefined categories. When the list is collapsed, all the predefined categories are hidden. Same thing for Payer/Payee list and Vehicle list.
    • Question 10: How do I delete an entry in the detail account list?

For Cashbook - Cupcake, the directory is /sdcard/com.softmimo.android.cashbook/. The database file name is DailyExpenseTracker.db. Also, every time during database backup, there is an extra copy with time stamp on the file name is also saved in the same directory. To save space in SD card, you can delete some of old files based on the time stamp in the file name.
    • Question 12: When upgrading the application, the screen then went to "installing" and has been stuck on this for several days. I have turned phone off & on again several times & removed the battery and sim card 3 times but when I go into downloads on the market home page there is this app still installing.  I don't seem to be able download or install any other apps since this started, they just say starting download but nothing else happens.  Any help/advice would be appreciated.Where are the saved database backup?
    • Question 13: I have to do a master reset on Android phone. Before doing this, can you tell me how to restore my database after the master reset?
    • Answer 13: It's very easy to get your database restored after master reset. Here are the steps:

      1) Before master reset your phone, you need to do database backup from Main Menu -> Options -> Database Backup. This way, you will have a backup database in SD card.
      2) Master reset your phone. Please note Master Reset deletes everything on your phone, but nothing on SD card.
      3) Re-install Mileage Tracker from Android Market. Open it and restore database from SD card by Main Menu -> Options -> Database Restore.
    • Question 14: Am I able to transfer data from my phone to my PC? If yes, how? Please help.

      • Answer 14: Yes, you have two ways to transfer your database in CSV or QIF format to your PC. Here are the details:
        1) You can transfer database by email database to your email account. You can do it from Main Menu -> Options -> Email Database -> Select Database Time Period -> Send database CSV or QIF file as attachment to your email account. You can open the email by your PC and open the CSV file by Microsoft Excel, or open QIF file by Quicken.
        2) You can also export database in CSV or QIF format to your SD card by Main Menu -> Options -> Export Database. Then you can copy the the CSV or QIF file (with time stamp in the file name) in directory /sdcard/com.softmimo.android.
dailyexpensetracker/ (For Cashbook - Cupcake, the directory is /sdcard/com.softmimo.android.cashbook/) to your PC.

    • Question 15: When I open the CSV files in Microsoft Excel, the values in some of the columns are marked as #######. Is it an software issue? Please help.

      • Answer 15: No, it is not a software issue.  The default width of the column is too short too display the value. That's the reason the values in some of the columns are marked as ######. If you make the columns wider in Excel, you will see the values without problem. CSV is a simple spreadsheet format and has no control of the column width.
    • Question 16: I keep having trouble sending data via g-mail.  It says sending message, return to main menu but data never transfers to who i'm sending it to.  What am I doing wrong?  Sometimes it goes through flawlessly, sometimes it doesn't. I go to export data base, choose a date range, then select gmail and who i'm sending it to and hit send.  What am I missing?

      • Answer 16: To send database in CSV or QIF format as email attachment, you need to turn on the "Email Auto Sync". You can do it from Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Auto-sync.

If your Internet connection is not so good, it will also prevent you from sending the email out. In this case, you can turn on the WIFI to get better Internet connection.
  • Question 17: I had purchased your application in late summer. I used it religiously for my expenses. My phone died last week and they shipped me a new one this week. All my information did not come up and says it wasn't saved to the SD card. Is there any back up of that data at your site? I really need that information. Thanks for looking in to my situation!
      • Answer 17: We are sorry to hear that you lost all your data due to the dead phone. All the user data are saved in the phone. We don't have a server to keep those information.

In Cashbook, we created two useful feature to backup user information from phone memory to SD card. Here are the details:
        1) Main Menu -> Options -> Database backup. This will help make a copy of database from phone memory to SD card.
        2) Main Menu -> Options -> Auto Database Backup. If it is turned on, whenever user exit from Mileage Tracker, the application will make a copy of current database from phone memory to SD card.

With this two features, if phone is dead or master reset, using the same SD card, database can be restore from Main Menu -> Options -> Database Restore.

NOTE: If you never did database backup or Auto Database Backup is off, you will not have any saved database copy to restore.
    • Question 18: For some unknown reason that "Take Receipt Snapshot" feature doesn't work on my phone. How I can do to use receipt snapshot feature.
      • Answer 18:  You can use the feature "Select Receipt Snapshot". You can take a picture of receipt by any camera application on your phone. After entering a record into Cashbook, you can using "Select Receipt Snapshot" feature to link an existing picture (as receipt snapshot) to the record.
