Managing Director

Martin Shaw is the Managing Director of Marine Operations and Assurance Management Solutions Ltd and founded MOAMS in 2010
 
Martin has had 42 years of experience in the Shipping Industry, 23 of which were  in management positions.
 
He combines a deep and wide knowledge of energy shipping with an MBA from Cranfield, one of the UK's most prestigious business schools.  He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology and an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute.   He holds an DtP Combined Extra Chiefs Certificate.
 
His last role before setting up MOAMS was as Vice President Technology for an oil major shipping organisation, a post which, as well as setting standards for fleet operations, provided marine support and standards for the entire group.
 
He has a wide range of skills which can be put at the service of his clients such as:-
  • the ability to analyse and simplify organisations
  • the ability to deliver projects on tight timeframes
  • the ability to put in place change that is sustainable
He is passionate about developing sustainable solutions for shipping organisations and spends a substantial amount of time researching developments in operations management in wider industry.
 
He has wide experience of operations having managed a fleet of tankers for four years during a period of major change resulting in an improvement in both the cost base on the fleet and the quality and safety delivered. He has also managed HSSE organisations.  He spent 14 years at sea on oil tankers and offshore vessels.
 
He has also managed a major ship vetting organisation and was involved in the early development of such systems as SIRE and CDI.   He developed  and implemented a standard for the operation of all marine activity within an oil majors portfolio.
 
He has experience in delivering projects including a building programme of some 30 vessels from tankers to tugs.  Project management included purchase, finance, specification as well as putting in place shipbuilding supervision.
 
His experience includes the LNG sector where, in addtion to shipping , he was involved in the marketing of LNG to Japan and Europe.  He was also involved in developing and implementing a shuttle tanker solution in the West of Shetland province.
