Dan Patch Historical Society

The mission of the Dan Patch Historical Society is to remember and tell the story of Dan Patch, a horse also known as the King of Pacers, and his owner Marion W. Savage. Dan Patch wasn't supposed to amount anything beyond pulling a delivery cart, but a trainer, John Wattles, saw the potential in him. As a result of the faith from Wattles and his future owner, Savage, Dan Patch went on to set the world record of 1.55 for a mile, on Sept. 8, 1906.
As a way to remember this remarkable partnership, so the Dan Patch Historical Society came to life. Every year they hold Dan Patch Days which includes a Button Raffle, and a Horseshoe Hunt. They also curate the Heritage Room, which is housed in a room in the town Library.
