Morton Monuments

On the eastern side of Morton there are two granite obelisks, the Birch Coulee and Loyal Indian Monuments.  The Birch Coulee monument was erected in 1894 in honor of the soldiers who fought at the battle of Birch Coulee.  The Loyal Indian Monument was erected five years later in the same place to honor the six Dakota who saved the lives of whites during the U.S.-Dakota War.
