Big Woods and Geldner Sawmill (Closed for 2013)
Site closed during 2013 for preservation project funded by State Capital Grant-In-Aid program

The mill is located off upper lake Jefferson in Cleveland and was fully operational 1870 through 1973. In the early 20th century the sawmill stood in the place that lumberyards hold today, serving as the backbone for the construction in Le Sueur County. Building anything required you do it yourself, using your own trees from your own land. The mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 after the Cleveland Historical Society became it involved in it's preservation. It was purchased in 1978 from the Geldner family and since it has been used as a live history lesson on Sunday afternoons.
In May 2011 the boiler was inspected and deemed unfit for operation, effectively closing down the mill. It was then inspected in August 2011 by the State Preservation Office and endorsed with the possibility of restoration which was approved September 2012.
