Pond Dakota Heritage Society

The aim of the Pond Dakota Heritage Society, in partnership with the Pond Dakota Press, is to preserve and promote the discovery and sharing of the history of the Dakota Indians as early settlers during the 1800s.  A few of the Heritage Society's particular historical interests include: Native American History and Culture, Missionaries to the Dakota Indians (such as Samuel and Gideon Pond from whom the society takes its name),  the Dakota War of 1862, and the Minnesota River Valley's natural history.
Throughout the year the society sponsors a variety of programs and events for visitors of all ages. These activities are generally held at the Pond Dakota Mission Park.   The park itself is home to the historic Pond home which is available for visitors to tour on Sundays.  There are also interpretive plaques and signs throughout the park for visitors to read.
