The Dakota City Heritage Village is a large scale museum that strives to provide a connection to the rural history of the area and to provide its visitors with a first hand experience of history.  The museum is made up of a 1900's-era village featuring 22 buildings over the five acre site. During business hours, visitors are able to tour these buildings and the exhibits that they are home to. The museum hosts multiple events throughout the year focusing on life as it was lived 100 years in the past, including how residents of the area were able to get their food and shelter and other necessities.
