Army Recruitment Band Wagon Marker

The marker is on the site of a Dakota ambush of a U.S. Army recruitment bandwagon, comprised of several wagons and a brass band in 1862.  The purpose of their journey was to recruit volunteers for the Civil War, which had begun the year prior.  The party was ambushed while on a bridge crossing a ravine, killing four.
