Blue Earth County Courthouse

The current Blue Earth County Courthouse is the second courthouse built in the county, built to replace the old 20 by 24 foot single story stone building built in 1857 and used to try nearly 400 Dakota following the U.S. Dakota War, resulting in the mass execution of 38.  By the late 19th century the courthouse was inadequate for the county's needs, stirring interest in the construction of a replacement.  In 1886 the building was finished, complete with a copper-sheathed dome capped with a Lady Justice statue that sits atop the clock tower.
