Biography

Mrs. Majka first came to Chester County as an undergraduate student at West Chester University where she earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music education; her performance medium was piano. She has had a piano studio in her home for over thirty years. She also taught elementary and middle school classroom and choral music, worked as a college supervisor of student teachers, and held positions as a church choir director.

Mrs. Majka met her husband while teaching in the Great Valley School District where he recently retired after thirty-six years as a middle school mathematics teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Majka have three children and four grandchildren.  Jill, a graphic designer, is their oldest child and the mother of three grandchildren, Gavin, Rori and Chase. Their older son, Joel, works as an auditor for GSK and has earned a degree in law. Their younger son, Jim, is a sergeant in the US Army currently assigned to the NSA at Fort Meade, MD. He is the father of grandson, Jimmie.

During her tenure as a piano teacher, Mrs. Majka has prepared several students to further their music training as performers, educators, and music therapists. The logo above signifies that she is recognized as a piano professional in piano instruction by the National Music Teachers Association because of her knowledge of music and pedagogy, her contributions to state and national organizations, and the accomplishments of her students. She is also a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers. The quality and number of students that she has prepared for auditions (including five students who earned the guild’s high school diploma) has earned her admittance to the guild's Hall of Fame. In addition to these the two organizations, Mrs. Majka is a member of the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association. She served as a guild center chairperson for fifteen years and continues to serve as a judge for guild and for local festivals and competitions.
