What is MILE?

The Minnesota Library Association (MLA) Institute for Leadership Excellence (MILE) is a subunit of MLA that gives participants an opportunity to grow leadership skills, connect with library professionals from around Minnesota, and be paired with a mentor.

MILE helps you discover the leader within yourself and learn to lead effectively today—even if your current position is not one of leadership.

• Are you currently in a leadership position?
• Do you want to work towards entering a leadership position or role?
• Do you find yourself providing leadership even though your official position might not be in leadership?

MILE 2017 Costs Participants (approximate):

$250 - shared room

$425 - single room

What happens at MILE?

MILE will be held at the beautiful Rutgers Family Lodge on gorgeous Bay Lake in the heart of the Brainerd Lakes area.

During the conference emerging library leaders from across the state learn about leadership, no matter what their current library position is.

Specifics about the curriculum will be forthcoming.

What will happen after MILE?

• Develop and refine leadership skills
• Develop and move forward on professional and personal goals
• Network and make connections with people in the broader community
• Reflect on the variety of leadership opportunities available at the local, regional, and state levels
• Meet and connect with your individually selected mentor

You'll meet and connect with your individually selected mentor from Minnesota’s professional library community on the last day of the conference. You'll work with this person for up to a year and a half following the Institute.

Additionally, as a participant in MILE 2017, you will have a chance to put your leadership skills to work as you and your colleagues plan MILE 2019.
