AYUSH Systems of Medicine
INDIA - Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) was created in March, 1995 and re-named as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November, 2003 with a view to providing focused attention to development of education and research in Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy systems. The Department continued to lay emphasis on upgradation of AYUSH educational standards, quality control and standardization of drugs, improving the availability of medicinal plant material, research and development and awareness generation about the efficacy of the systems domestically and internationally.
MIZORAM - The Health Care Facility for the ancient and holistic Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy took birth in Mizoram in the year 2001 under the administration of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Mizoram and was later renamed as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in the year 2003. Later in the year 2007, AYUSH is monitored by the Programme Executive (AYUSH) under the direct supervision of Nodal Officer (AYUSH) and Director AYUSH). Recently on 1.9.2011, one AYUSH doctor has been promoted as Deputy Director (AYUSH). Since its establishment, the state of Mizoram has laid special interest for the strengthening and promotion of the growth of AYUSH Sector in Mizoram as AYUSH is a sunrise and promising health care sector in this state. Although, the state of Mizoram is economically backward and a majority of them lives in isolated area and are hardly accessible. In spite of a dramatically appreciation made by the people of Mizoram and hindered by the slow progress of the local people, the wealth of Local Health Traditions and the Traditional Knowledge possessed by the tribal inhabitants has always been a motivation and the growing support of the general public and these has been an upliftment and a potential tool to propagate and promote the benefits of these systems of medicines till today.
