In Colorado's youth, David Moffat, a Denver business leader, founded the Denver Northwestern & Pacific Railway.

This book tells the story of the building of that railroad and how that road helped make the state what it is today.   A new look is taken at a little known chapter of Colorado's past.   A historical novel with a twist, it is set in 1900's Colorado.   And the present day.

Mik Mas is a man out of time.  He finds himself in 1903, thrown into the struggle to build the railroad.   Some of the folks he meets along the road resemble people from home.  But even if they were a friend at home they may or may not be one here.   He struggles to separate foe from friend even while he tries to fit in to an unfamiliar time.

The creation of a major railroad is the centerpiece.  The builders work through some unforgiving country and overcome some formidable and stealthy opposition.   Some people support and help the road; others try to impede or stop it.  The efforts collide.

Here you will find something for most everyone:    Railroad men using dynamite.  .  Back room finance.    Coal, iron and cinders.   Hustlers and confidence games....

The author taps previously unavailable diaries and records to augment and enrich the tale.
