Attendance and Tardiness

Attendance
Students are expected to attend every class session absent exigent circumstance.  Attendance for those taking this course is highly important because discussion groups and in-class assignments will be assessed throughout the sessions.  The student is expected to attend all classes and actively participate in class discussions.  Because of this, students must complete the assigned readings and assignments prior to the scheduled class meeting to contribute to meaningful class discussions.

Attendance is mandatory and will be recorded.  Students are allowed the following absences:
  • Per the Professionalism Grade, for every absence that a student has, 5 points will be deducted from their professionalism grade (15%).
  • Students who are more than 20 minutes late to a class will be counted absent and 5 points will be deducted from their professionalism grade.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to monitor their absences.

Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, students will be referred to Blackboard in order to gain information about class assignments and projects.  In addition (if requested), classes may still be held remotely using Blackboard Collaborate as the venue.  The instructor will provide additional information and Blackboard Collaborate will be tested before being utilized for scheduled class times.

Tardiness
Tardiness inhibits learning and disrupts the classroom environment for all.  There will be times that there may be circumstances in which a student is unable to get to class on time. Excessive tardies are unacceptable and may lead to absences being counted towards the students professionalism grade (see attendance policy above).

If the instructor is tardy to a class, students must wait 20 minutes.  If the instructor has not arrived, class will automatically be dismissed.
