I'm making available Primary Census Abstract for Census years: 1991, 2001 & 2011 for public use. The datasets are available under a simple open Database Content Licence. Here's the dropbox folder.

Note: The data has been compiled from the Census of India datafiles. All of these tables are also available on the digital library of the Census of India website.
