                Big Springs Camp


We are headed to Resica Falls Scout Reservation’s “Big Springs Camp” in in East Stroudsburg, PA from July 1st - July 7th, 2018 (week #2). Directions to Resica Elementary School where we will gather after we caravan to camp and before entering camp. We will meet at Dewey Fire Company Parking Lot in Hellertown @ 12:15 PM. Please eat lunch before you arrive. We will be sharing the Seneca campsite with Minsi Trails Council Troop 100. The camp Theme will be Space Odyssey.

Located in the Pocono Mountains, Resica Falls Scout Reservation is a 4,200+ acre Scout Reservation. Part of the Cradle of Liberty Council, this camp was established in 1957. The Bushkill Creek at Resica Falls is one of the leading areas for fly fishing on the East Coast. The camp includes the 45-foot waterfall, a large pool with a slide and a lake as well as many other areas for adventure and fun. (more). See video.

Pick-up: You will need to pick-up your son(s) at camp on Saturday, July 7th between 8:30-8:45 AM.
There will be no closing ceremony in the morning for parent's to watch. No boys are allowed to leave before the Camp Staff approves our site and releases us. We will do our best to get that approval as soon as possible.

Resica Rangers: Resica Rangers is a First Year Camper Program which focuses on teaching the skills necessary for Scout through First Class. Skill sessions focus on scout skills, first aid, citizenship, and swimming. Scouts also have the opportunity to participate in a 5-mile hike and over night campout. The program is designed to allow scouts to focus on the skills the need and complete 2 merit badges (Space Exploration and Fingerprinting). If Scouts pass the Swimming Test, they will also take the Swimming merit badge. If they do not pass the Swimming Test, they will be enrolled in instructional swim to make them better swimmers.

Merit Badges: Resica Falls offers almost 70 different merit badges, including 13 eagle required badges. The 2018 Merit Badge List and Program Guide. Also utilize the Merit Badge Schedule & Scheduling Worksheet when selecting your MBs. You should be working on your prerequisites as soon as you submit your merit badge schedule! Please register for at least one Eagle Required badge. We ask you to register for a minimum of 3 merit badges and encourage you to register for more. Email your list to Mr. Schriffert or turn in the Scheduling Worksheet with your selections and times by Sunday, April 22nd @ 6:30 PM at the latest. Please pay attention to prerequisites and additional costs where applicable.

STEM: In 2018, Big Springs Camp has expanded its STEM Center unlike ever before! In order to maximize our science program, the STEM Center is located in The Great Bend, by the Great Bend Shower House. Badges offered include Chemistry, Digital Technology, Electricity, Electronics, Engineering, Movie Making, Photography, Radio, Robotics and Space Exploration! Make sure you stop by the STEM Center to earn a badge, or just find out more information about the program!

ATV Program: Scouts must be 14 years of age or older to participate in this program. There are four week-long sessions offered, and each session has a limit of 6 participants. The ATV Participation and Hold-Harmless Agreement must be completed and signed by a parent before the scouts arrive in camp. Participants are required to wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, and sturdy boots that cover the ankle while on the course. Per manufacturers standards, participants may not weigh more than 225 lbs. There is a $25 fee per scout for participating in the program. Apply early for this program. 

Activities: Other activities are also available in the afternoon or evening based on a weekly calendar published at the beginning of the week.


Pricing
: To receive early bird pricing you must have a non-refundable $100 deposit in by 02/25/2018:

*Additional fees may be necessary for certain merit badges (rifle/shotgun ammo, leather kits, basketry kits, etc.). These are paid in cash or check directly to Resica Falls from the Scout.

Troop Payment Schedule: To make it easier for the early bird payments we have divided them up across a 3 month period based on the Resica Due dates. The balance may be paid at any time prior to the due dates above.

    - $100 – February 25, 2018
     - $165 – March 18, 2018
    - $160 – April 22, 2018

Medical Forms: Download and print the “required” Medial Form. All Scouts and Leaders must have the Medical Form completed annually by a doctor for camp and for Troop records. Your form may not expire during camp. Please have this form completed and turned in to Tony by Sunday, June 17th at 6:30 pm. This includes any Parent attending camp.

    - We will need a separate list of all medications, dosage and schedules when you turn in your medical form.

           - I will need original documents for both of the above and copy of each for the Troop.

Food Allergies and Religious Dietary Needs: If your son has any food allergies, please complete the 2018 Allergy Action form and turn it in to Tony by Sunday, June 17th at 6:30 pm along with your Medical Forms. Each boy with food allergies will meet with the chef during our tour on the first day and discuss their allergy. Troop Photos: Troop photos will be taken with a digital camera and the file will be provided to the unit by Resica Falls. Troop photos will be taken by our assigned commissioner by appointment. We expect these to be taken at check-in.

Troop T-Shirts - will no longer be purchased because sizes were not submitted: The Troop will purchase Class B T-Shirts for Scouts attending Summer Camp. Additional shirts are available for other Scouts, family and friends. See the details.

Troop Release: Troop Release is due June 17th @ 6:30 pm.
