Virtual Large Scale Disks (VLSD)

Abstract

ビッグデータ時代には、ビッグデータを格納するストレージが重要です。一般にストレージ装置は高価であり、手軽に利用できません。しかし、既に社内で複数のクライアントPCを利用しているならば、そのHDDの総容量はストレージサーバの容量に匹敵します。つまり、クライアントPCでデータグリッドを構成することで安価に大容量ストレージを構成することが可能です。我々は、そのために仮想大規模ディスクを構築するツールキットVLSD(Virtual Large Scale Disks)を開発しました。

しかし、VLSDでは、既存ストレージより高い信頼性が要求されます。そのため、従来RAIDより高効率かつ高信頼な方式を提案しました。また、仮想ディスクの拡張性を活かして暗号化、重複排除などの機能をもった仮想ディスクも開発しました。このような機能的仮想ディスクを組み合わせることで災害復旧に適したバックアップシステムを構築することが可能です。
