Native Language Literacy Assessment (NLLA) is Now Available!
A million thanks to Drs. Kendall King and Martha Bigelow who have just released the NLLA tool they developed at the University of Minnesota. It requires no proficiency in the various languages by proctors of the assessment, and is available in several languages. They are planning to add more languages in the future. Districts and schools may find this tool very useful in determining the literacy part of the SLIFE definition in Minnesota.
Have you seen MDE's SLIFE page?
It contains a variety of resources for identifying and serving SLIFE. Click here to check it out!

Recent educational policy legislation has increased the profile of SLIFE at the statewide level. Although this expansion is not as broad as one would hope it nevertheless marks an important growth of awareness within state government of unique SLIFE issues. See below for the relevant sections of legislation as per MDE:
We hope to see you there!
Address: 2000 Tiger Lane, Albert Lea, MN 56007. Parking is available behind the building.
Thanks, thanks, thanks again to all who attended, presented and generally made our spring conference a success. It is important to us as an organization to share materials, as finding information on SLIFE can be challenging. We have posted up the conference materials that are currently available to us on our resources page. Please browse the materials.
If you attended but do not see something let us know and we will do our best to make it available to you!
