9. Duties and Human Rights or Human Rights and Duties< xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" prefix="o" namespace="">

Again, we return to the premise that all persons have the same worth. Therefore, if this is the case, we all have the same rights. But to ensure that those rights are respected we need to ensure that we all agree with our obligations to respect and ensure that the rights of others are respected.  Those are our duties. Rights and duties are reciprocal. If there are duties there are also rights.  On the other hand, if we want rights, there must be duties; rights for all, duties for all.

This reciprocity between duties and rights is what guarantees universal peace, between nations and between persons.

Let us now organize into separate groups of 5 each, and in each group let us attempt to make a list of human rights and duties.

Once the lists are done, let us embark on a reflection and discussion of them, to see the different reactions, and let us try to arrive at a unique list of rights and other of duties.

Are we all in agreement with these lists?  Do we want to add or subtract anything?

¿Do you believe that all the rights are being adhered to?  Which ones yes, and which ones no?

¿What can be done to improve on those situations you have presented?

¿Which appear to be the rights that are more difficult for all to respect? ¿What could be done in those special situations?

We are arriving at the end of the course regarding the Human Person. I hope we are all conscious of this, that we are persons, and that we have value as such, and that it is equal in all of us.  That we all have, therefore, the same dignity, and therefore, the same right to be treated equally everywhere.  These are, therefore, our rights as persons; our human rights.

But at the same time, we all have the obligation to respect my rights and those of others, and that is what entails our human duties.   If we give respect to all, we are contributing to a world of peace and justice, where love and equality reign, where happiness grows and where we can all feel good and satisfied.  It is our wish for you and for all.
