How to get started

Background: secure access to the grid relies on a personal user certificate or digital signature. That is, you get a private key file with a password that you use for access.

You get your personal user certificate when you sign up for the grid.
The sign up and certificate install process is described step-by-step in user-cert-import-uk.pdf at the bottom of this page.
Your user certificate is valid for one year at a time but you can always request renewal.

We used to rely on grid server certificates signed by our own CA so that you got trust warnings unless you specifically imported our CA certificate. Now that we switched to server certificates from an external trust provider you should no longer have to worry about that, but just for for the record the old install process is described step-by-step in CA-cert-import-uk.pdf at the bottom of this page.

The above should be all you need to get started using MiG, but in case you want to use MiG for handling many/big files you may also want to use the more efficient SFTP interface to your MiG files. Step-by-step instructions are included in sftp-setup-uk.pdf below.
