Mingo Central High School was formed from the consolidation of Burch, Gilbert, Matewan, and Williamson High Schools. Mingo Central opened its doors to our new students in August 2011. We are a comprehensive 9-12 grade high school on a beautiful 90-acre site along the King Coal Highway overlooking the mountains of Mingo County. It is a 172,535 square foot school building containing approximately 60 classrooms, a commons area seating 488 students, a band room for 80 band members, an auditorium seating 400, and a gymnasium seating 2160 fans. The parking lot can accommodate up to 199 staff members and 311 students.

Mingo Central offers Advance Placement/Dual Credit courses in Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, English, the Arts, and various pre-engineering courses. Besides the state-mandated academic courses, we are able to offer Choral, Band, Ceramics, Painting, Piano, Guitar, Dance, Life Fitness, Weight Lifting and much more. The Career Technical school offers Auto Mechanics, HVAC, Graphic Arts, Pro-Start, Healthcare Occupations, Building and Construction, Welding, and a Pre-Engineering program called Project Lead the Way.
